All the structures are lighted. A lighted billboard will have an increase of 50% in viewers. If 10,000 potential viewers pass a location during a 24 hour period an unlighted billboard will only reach about 6,500 of those people. A lighted billboard (lights off about midnight) will reach about 9,500 of those people. Hence, an unlighted billboard that rents for $400 per month is LESS cost effective than a lighted billboard at the same location that rents for $550 per month.
The electric associated with lighting one side a billboard with 3 400 watt lights is about $40 a month. Most of the older wooden unlighted billboards are non conforming and lighting can not be permitted by the County for those structures.
Many if not most of the wooden unlighted billboards in Citrus County are old boards that now have poor visibility (vegetation blocking the view, buildings blocking the view, poor traffic patterns and counts, etc.) compared to our locations.
I feel, as do many of those that advertise on our structures, that advertising on a modern lighted steel monopole projects a much more professional image than advertising on an unlighted old wooden structure.
Advertising on a tri vision type structure actually produces results that are 400% greater than advertising on a stationary billboard.
For roughly $20 a day a business can reach more people in a specific area than they can reach by advertising in the Chronicle on a daily basis. It does little good for a business to advertise in the Chronicle and expect those readers that live on the other side of the County to read their advertisement and drive to their business.
